Ukrainian Orthodox League Announces the Beneficiary of the 2011 Thanksgiving Tithing Project!
Annually, the Junior and Senior National Executive Boards of the Ukrainian Orthodox League select a parish / cause that would benefit greatly from the UOL Thanksgiving Tithing project.
This year, the Boards have selected the Metropolia Center of our Holy Church in South Bound Brook, NJ.
Already extremely conscious of the poor economy in our country which has affected everyone, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA has done a lot of belt-tightening and budget cutting while attempting to maintain and provide a high level of service to the parishes and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of USA, as well as to Orthodox Christians around the world.
As you must have heard, Hurricane Irene, which hit the east coast at the end of August, 2011, had a devastating effect on the grounds and property of our Diocese. There was substantial flooding of the Fisher House, the Sisterhood Hall and the Center’s maintenance building, the Memorial Church’s pastoral residence and two homes across the street from the Memorial Church. Trees on the property fell and the Seminary basement was flooded.
No one could have anticipated the far-reaching effects of this storm, much less the cost of repairing the damage done to our Diocesan property.
