The Sunday of Orthodoxy stands as a profound proclamation that the faith of the Church is not an abstract idea, but a lived and embodied confession of the Truth revealed in Jesus Christ. On this sacred day, the Orthodox Church celebrates not merely the historical restoration of holy icons, but the enduring victory of the Incarnate Word - the Truth that cannot be silenced, distorted, or erased.

It was within this profound theological and spiritual context that His Eminence Archbishop Daniel represented the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America at the prayerful celebration of the Sunday of Orthodoxy at Saint Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, concelebrating the Divine Liturgy together with the members of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, marking the feast in conjunction with Assembly of Bishops Sunday.

This solemn Eucharistic gathering brought together fifteen hierarchs of the Orthodox Church in North America, representing the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Georgian Orthodox Church, the Albanian Orthodox Church, and the Orthodox Church in America. Archbishop Daniel participated on behalf of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, whose Primate, His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, remains steadfast in bearing witness to the unity of the Orthodox faith in the American context.

The concelebration itself - bishops standing shoulder to shoulder around the Holy Altar - was a living icon of ecclesial unity. Though diverse in language, culture, and historical experience, the hierarchs proclaimed with one voice the same Apostolic faith, guarding and transmitting the same Holy Tradition entrusted to the Church by Christ Himself.

At the heart of the celebration was the traditional Procession of the Holy Icons, during which each hierarch proclaimed the eternal truths of the Orthodox faith through selections from the Synodikon of Orthodoxy. This public confession is not triumphalism, but testimony - a humble yet bold declaration that Truth is not invented by generations, but received, preserved, and lived.

The words of the Synodikon echoed powerfully:

“This is the faith of the Apostles.
This is the faith of the Fathers.
This is the faith of the Orthodox.
This faith has established the universe.”

In this sacred act, the Church once again affirmed that Orthodoxy is not nostalgia for the past, but fidelity to the living Christ, Who remains present and active in His Body, the Church.

A particularly moving moment of the celebration came through the sermon delivered by His Beatitude Archbishop Joan of Tirana, Durrës, and All Albania - a deeply theological reflection on the nature of the icon - not merely as painted wood, but as a revelation of God’s love for humanity.

The celebration was hosted by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, who warmly welcomed Archbishop Joan to the United States and to the gathering of the Assembly. In his remarks, Archbishop Elpidophoros noted that Archbishop Joan is a graduate of Holy Cross School of Theology and praised his pastoral ministry, faithfulness, and commitment to the legacy of his predecessor, Archbishop Anastasios of blessed memory, whose missionary vision and tireless labor rebuilt the Albanian Orthodox Church after decades of persecution.

By honoring this living continuity, the Church testified that Orthodoxy does not stand still, but faithfully moves forward - carrying the wisdom of the Fathers into the challenges of the present age.

The celebration concluded with a festive luncheon offered in honor of the Sunday of Orthodoxy and of Archbishop Joan’s visit. Yet even this moment of fellowship flowed naturally from the Eucharist, reminding all present that communion at the Holy Table must always extend into communion of love, dialogue, and mutual respect.

Archbishop Daniel’s participation throughout the day reflected the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA’s unwavering commitment to pan-Orthodox cooperation, unity in truth, and a shared witness to Christ in the American religious landscape.

As the Church continues her pilgrimage through history, the celebration at Saint Catherine Greek Orthodox Church stood as a luminous reminder that Orthodoxy lives - not as ideology, but as communion; not as memory, but as presence.

May the Lord strengthen our common witness and preserve His Holy Church in unity, truth, and love.

У єдності Святої Традиції: Українська Православна Церква США разом з ієрархами святкує Неділю Православ’я у Грецькій Православній Церкві святої Катерини з Архієпископом Йоаном Тиранським, Дурреським і всієї Албанії

Неділя Православ’я постає як глибоке проголошення того, що віра Церкви - це не абстрактна ідея, а жива й втілена сповідь Істини, об’явленої в Ісусі Христі. У цей священний день Православна Церква святкує не лише історичне відновлення шанування святих ікон, але й непереможну перемогу Воплоченого Слова - Істини, яку неможливо змусити замовкнути, спотворити чи знищити.

Саме в такому глибокому богословському та духовному контексті Його Високопреосвященство архієпископ Даниїл представляв Українську Православну Церкву США на молитовному святкуванні Неділі Православ’я у храмі святої великомучениці Катерини Грецької Православної Церкви, співслужачи Божественну Літургію разом із членами Асамблеї канонічних православних єпископів Сполучених Штатів Америки, відзначаючи це свято у поєднанні з Неділею Асамблеї Єпископів.

Це урочисте євхаристійне зібрання об’єднало п’ятнадцять ієрархів Православної Церкви в Північній Америці, які представляли Вселенський Патріархат Константинополя, Сербську Православну Церкву, Грузинську Православну Церкву, Албанську Православну Церкву та Православну Церкву в Америці. Архієпископ Даниїл брав участь від імені Української Православної Церкви США, Предстоятель якої - Його Високопреосвященство Митрополит Антоній - непохитно свідчить про єдність православної віри в американському контексті.

Саме співслужіння - єпископи, що стояли пліч-о-пліч навколо Святого Престолу - стало живою іконою церковної єдності. Попри різноманіття мов, культур і історичного досвіду, ієрархи одноголосно проголошували ту саму апостольську віру, оберігаючи й передаючи ту саму Святу Традицію, довірену Церкві Самим Христом.

У центрі святкування була традиційна Процесія святих ікон, під час якої кожен ієрарх проголошував вічні істини православної віри через уривки з Синодикону Православ’я. Це публічне сповідання є не тріумфалізмом, а свідченням - смиренним, але водночас відважним проголошенням того, що Істина не вигадується поколіннями, а приймається, зберігається і проживається.

Слова Синодикону пролунали з особливою силою:
«Це віра апостолів.
Це віра отців.
Це віра православних.
Цією вірою утверджено вселенну».

У цьому священному чині Церква знову підтвердила, що Православ’я - це не ностальгія за минулим, а вірність Живому Христу, Який перебуває присутнім і дієвим у Своєму Тілі - Церкві.

Особливо зворушливим моментом святкування стала проповідь Його Блаженства архієпископа Іоана Тиранського, Дурреського і всієї Албанії - глибоко богословське роздумування про природу ікони не лише як розписаного дерева, але як об’явлення Божої любові до людства.

Святкування відбувалося під проводом Його Високопреосвященства архієпископа Америки Елпідофора, який сердечно привітав архієпископа Іоана у Сполучених Штатах. У своєму слові архієпископ Елпідофор зазначив, що архієпископ Іоан є випускником Богословської школи Святого Хреста, та відзначив його пастирське служіння, вірність і відданість спадщині його попередника - блаженної пам’яті архієпископа Анастасія, місіонерське бачення та невтомна праця якого відродили Албанську Православну Церкву після десятиліть переслідувань.

Вшановуючи цю живу спадкоємність, Церква засвідчила, що Православ’я не стоїть на місці, а вірно рухається вперед, несучи мудрість святих отців назустріч викликам сучасної доби.

Святкування завершилося святковим обідом, влаштованим на честь Неділі Православ’я та візиту архієпископа Іоана. Проте й цей момент братнього спілкування природно випливав з Євхаристії, нагадуючи всім присутнім, що сопричастя за Святим Престолом завжди має продовжуватися у сопричасті любові, діалогу та взаємної поваги.

Участь архієпископа Даниїла протягом усього дня стала відображенням непохитної відданості Української Православної Церкви США загальноцерковній православній співпраці, єдності в істині та спільному свідченню про Христа в релігійному просторі Америки.

Коли Церква продовжує свою паломницьку ходу крізь історію, святкування у храмі святої Катерини стало світлим нагадуванням, що Православ’я живе - не як ідеологія, а як сопричастя; не як спомин, а як жива присутність.

Нехай Господь укріпить наше спільне свідчення та збереже Свою Святу Церкву в єдності, істині й любові.
