Honoring the Memory of the HEAVENLY HUNDRED

On this 4th anniversary of the Euromaidan Revolution—Revolution of Dignity—which took place in Ukraine in February 2014, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA prayerfully remembers those whose lives were tragically cut short. In Kyiv in 2018, on the anniversary, Ukrainians hung white paper angels on the trees along the street in downtown Kyiv near Maidan Nezalezhnosti were lives were lost. Alongside our fellow Ukrainians, our community will also pay tribute to those souls by also hanging white paper angels. With the blessing of the Prime Hierarch of the UOC of USA, His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, we ask all local parishes and church communities to participate with us in remembering the lost lives during the Revolution of Dignity.

On April 15, during the St. Thomas Sunday Pilgrimage to the Metropolia Center, following Divine Liturgy we will hang white paper angels on the trees along the driveway in front of St. Andrew Memorial Church.

We ask all parishes and youth to create angels to be hung. You can cut out the angels following the patterns POSTED BELOW, or be creative and make your own angels.  We just ask that they remain ONLY WHITE and be ready to be strung onto a tree. Please mail, or deliver, all angels to the Consistory by April 1st.

In February, a small tree memorial was erected in the rotunda of the Consistory of the UOC of USA in Somerset. This white tree filled with angels symbolizes the innocence of the lives lost during the violent clashes. For the next two months, visitors to the Consistory may view a photograph exhibit which also includes artifacts of the Permanent Collection of the Ukrainian History and Education Center such as a helmet and badges worn by volunteers. While viewing the exhibit, visitors can already hang an angel on the tree as we commemorate the anniversary through the spring season.
