DOOR Radio Program Interviews His Eminence Archbishop Daniel
DOOR Radio Program Interviews Archbishop Daniel

“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” John 10:9. On Sunday, September 24th, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel walked through the doors of St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral in Southfield, Michigan to sit for an interview for the DOOR (Detroit’s Own Orthodox Radio) radio program.

DOOR is broadcast live in the Metropolitan Detroit area each Sunday evening on WNZK 690AM radio.  Known as "The Station of the Nations" since it began broadcasting in 1985.  It is one of over 20 radio stations owned by Birach Broadcasting Corporation.  Thanks to Mr. Sima Birach, president and CEO, the Orthodox Christian community of Detroit once again could share their message on the airwaves and live stream on the internet.

Archbishop Daniel’s voice echoed over the airwaves throughout Detroit and the local community, outward to the Orthodox world beyond, as he was interviewed this Sunday by program host, Jim Badeen.   Asked to give a bit of a background on himself, His Eminence informed the listeners that he was born in the Ternopil Region of Ukraine, where he grew up and began his theological studies.  This area of education continued as he emigrated to the U.S. and as a deacon was received in to the UOC of the UCA, and enrolled in the St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary, in South Bound Brook, NJ, which he completed in two years.  Continuing his education in Applied Orthodox Theology, at the University of Balamand, Vladyka Daniel received his Master’s Degree, and soon was ordained to the Holy Priesthood.  With his priesthood came a variety of new responsibilities at the Consistory of the UOC, which included publishing the church’s monthly magazine (Ukrainian Orthodox Word), publishing the Church calendar, being the Spiritual Advisor to the Sisterhood, as well as taking on the responsibility of managing the Orphanage Program in Ukraine.

Having earned his Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, he was commissioned as an officer of the US Army (Champlain Corps), out of Fort Jackson where he served as chaplain in the Medical Brigade of the U.S. Army.  In 2008 consecrated a bishop in the UOC of USA, His Eminence took on even greater responsibilities, traveling and giving lectures throughout the nation, to both Ukrainian, and non-Ukrainian, Orthodox and non-Orthodox, always working towards spreading the teachings of the True Faith to all the world.  As President of the Consistory, he was nominated by the 21st Regular Sobor of the Church to the rank of Archbishop.

Vladyka Daniel explained how the Church plays an active role in today’s society.  There are many avenues through which the Orthodox Church can fulfill Christ’s directive and how the faithful, following His teachings can influence and make this world better by helping the needy, visiting the sick, feeding the hungry, or simply offering support to those who need it.  With excitement and enthusiasm in his voice, His Eminence stated that if we, the Orthodox faithful, work together, we could truly make a marked difference in many lives.  Therefore, he stated that he is excited at the prospect of numerous projects to be undertaken by a united Orthodox Church in North America.  Even though we may speak different languages, we all speak of Christ’s truth and love, and if we work together we will achieve even greater things.  It is with great hope in our combined future, and with unity between the various jurisdictions that His Eminence looks forward to the next few years, and the fruition of numerous charitable and educational projects.

His Eminence concluded by ensuring everyone that they are in his prayers, and asking that the faithful pray for each other daily, and strive to work together for the greater glory of God.
