With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Diaspora, the Assembly of the Clergy and Representatives of the Parishes of the Western European Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Diaspora convened in Munich, Germany. The gathering brought together clergy and lay delegates representing more than 35 Ukrainian Orthodox parishes from Germany and throughout Western Europe.

The Assembly became a significant spiritual event in the life of the Eparchy, uniting those who faithfully carry out their pastoral ministry among the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians who have been forced to leave their homeland because of the full-scale war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. During these historic times, the Church continues to serve as a spiritual home - a place of prayer, support, unity, and hope for the Ukrainian people far from their native land.

The Assembly opened with a prayer service, after which Archbishop Daniel conveyed the archpastoral blessing and heartfelt greetings of Metropolitan Antony, who continues to uphold the clergy and faithful of the Western European Eparchy in his prayers.

Opening the sessions, Archbishop Daniel emphasized that the Lord has called the Ukrainian clergy to serve precisely during this dramatic period of history.

"We did not choose the circumstances through which the Ukrainian people are passing today. We could never have imagined that millions of our compatriots would be forced to leave their homes and seek refuge far from their homeland. Yet God has led us exactly where His presence is needed most. For the world, this war has become a tragedy. For the Church, it has also become a new missionary field. Along with the people who entered our churches came their pain, their tears, their fear, and their hope. Therefore, our ministry must be more than liturgical - it must be deeply pastoral, filled with love, patience, compassion, and a readiness to accompany every person on the journey toward God."

He continued: "We represent more than individual parishes or the countries in which we serve. We represent the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, our Mother Church - the Ecumenical Patriarchate - and the entire Ukrainian nation that is now passing through the Golgotha of war. Every priest is therefore called to be an example of responsibility, canonical integrity, openness to cooperation, and brotherly love. Unity has always been - and remains - the Church's greatest strength."

During the two-day Assembly, delegates discussed a broad range of topics concerning the contemporary life of the Eparchy, including parish development, missionary outreach, catechetical ministry, pastoral care for Ukrainian families, strengthening the administrative structures of the Church, the legal registration of parishes, the ministry of church choirs, liturgical life, and the continued development of the deaneries.

Special attention was devoted to the pastoral care of those who have experienced the trauma of war, the loss of loved ones, forced displacement, and the difficult process of integrating into new societies. Participants emphasized that today's Ukrainian priest is called not only to celebrate the Holy Mysteries but also to be a compassionate listener, a spiritual father, and a bearer of God's hope.

Addressing the clergy, Archbishop Daniel encouraged them to view the future of the Eparchy strategically.

"We have already established dozens of parishes. We have organized deaneries. We see thousands of Ukrainians finding a spiritual home in our churches. Yet the history of the Church has never been built merely upon preserving what has already been achieved. The Lord expects growth from us. We must think in terms of generations - not only about tomorrow, but about what the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will be twenty or fifty years from now. We are not building for ourselves; we are building for the children and grandchildren of those who come to our churches today."

The Archbishop stressed that the Church must now move from a stage of formation to one of mature development.

"Our parishes must become more than places where services are celebrated. They must become spiritual families. Here people should encounter Christ, experience brotherly love, receive support and education, find answers to life's questions, and gain the strength to continue their journey. If someone leaves the Church convinced that the Lord has not abandoned them amid their trials, then our ministry has borne fruit."

One of the central themes of the Assembly was ministry to young people.

Following extensive discussion, the delegates resolved that in 2027 the Western European Eparchy will organize its first Eparchy-wide Orthodox Youth Camp, providing young Ukrainians with an opportunity for spiritual formation, fellowship, the strengthening of their Orthodox identity, and a deeper connection to the life of the Church.

Archbishop Daniel emphasized: "Young people are not only the future of the Church - they are its present. If we do not invest ourselves in the spiritual formation of children and youth today, tomorrow there will be no one to whom we can entrust the spiritual treasure we ourselves have received. Young people are searching for truth, for love, and for God. Our task is to help them discover all of these within the Church of Christ. Youth gatherings, Bible studies, pilgrimages, volunteer service, summer camps, and spiritual discussions must become an integral part of every parish."

A particularly valuable part of the Assembly's program was the meeting with Professor Dr. Larysa Didkovska, Rector of the Ukrainian Free University.

Professor Didkovska shared contemporary approaches to providing psychological support for individuals who have endured the trauma of war, forced displacement, the loss of loved ones, and prolonged emotional stress. Particular attention was given to the collaboration between theology, pastoral ministry, and psychology in offering holistic care for the human person.

Archbishop Daniel expressed his sincere gratitude to Professor Didkovska for her many years of academic service and her significant contribution to the spiritual and psychological support of Ukrainians.

The Archbishop also highlighted her recent series of reflections published on YouTube, noting that they help people reflect more deeply upon their lives, experiences, and spiritual journeys.

Addressing the clergy, Archbishop Daniel remarked: "We live in an age when people seek answers not only to external challenges but also to the deepest questions of the human heart. Psychology helps us understand human experience, yet true self-knowledge begins only when a person opens his or her life to God, for only the Lord knows the depths of the human heart. Spiritual self-understanding must therefore always remain at the center of pastoral ministry. A person truly discovers himself only when he discovers Christ."

At the conclusion of the presentation, Fr. Oleksandr Smoktunowicz, Secretary of the Western European Eparchy, presented Professor Didkovska with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of all the Assembly participants as a sign of profound gratitude for her inspiring lecture, her many years of service to the Ukrainian academic community, and her support of the clergy.

The culmination of the Assembly was the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy celebrated on Saturday, July 11, the Feast Day of Saint Olga, Equal-to-the-Apostles.

Archbishop Daniel presided at the Divine Liturgy, concelebrating with the deans and clergy of the Western European Eparchy.

In his homily, the Archbishop reflected upon the example of Saint Olga as a woman of profound faith, wisdom, and spiritual courage.

"Saint Olga teaches us that God changes history whenever He finds a human heart willing to answer His call. Her greatest victory was not political wisdom but the courage to receive Christ and allow God's grace to transform her life. Through the conversion of one person, God prepared the conversion of an entire nation. Likewise today, the future of those entrusted to our pastoral care depends upon our own personal fidelity to Christ."

He continued: "Saint Olga teaches us never to fear responsibility. A true spiritual leader does not seek the easiest path. He remains faithful to Christ even when surrounded by fear, war, uncertainty, and trials. It is precisely in such moments that the true strength of faith is revealed. Today our people need clergy whose very lives proclaim that the Lord never abandons those who place their hope in Him."

At the conclusion of the Assembly, Archbishop Daniel thanked the clergy for their sacrificial ministry to the Ukrainian people, emphasizing that the greatest strength of the Western European Eparchy remains its brotherly unity, mutual support, and common desire to serve Christ.

"The greatest fruit of our ministry will never be measured by statistics or by the number of parishes we establish. The greatest fruit will be every person who encounters the living Christ through our witness. If, because of our ministry, people come to love God more deeply, pray more sincerely, live more holy lives, and pass the Orthodox faith on to their children, then we may truly say that the Lord has blessed our labors. That is why the Church exists. That is why the Lord has called each one of us."

The prayerful gathering concluded with fraternal fellowship among the clergy and delegates, who gave thanks to God for the gift of unity, the blessing of praying together, and the opportunity to discern the future direction of the Western European Eparchy.

The participants departed Munich with a renewed conviction that the Lord continues to bless the ministry of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Diaspora among the Ukrainian people, and that the unity of the clergy, the sacrificial dedication of the faithful, and unwavering faith in Christ remain the strongest foundation for the continued growth of the Church throughout Western Europe.

Собор Західноєвропейської Єпархії Української Православної Церкви Діаспори у Мюнхені: духовна єдність, відповідальність та бачення майбутнього

Мюнхен, Німеччина: 10-11 липня 2026 року

З благословення Його Високопреосвященства Митрополита Антонія, Предстоятеля Української Православної Церкви Діаспори, у місті Мюнхен (Німеччина) відбувся Собор духовенства та представників громад Західноєвропейської Єпархії Української Православної Церкви Діаспори, який об'єднав священнослужителів і мирян понад 35 українських православних громад із Німеччини та інших країн Західної Європи.

Собор став важливою духовною подією в житті єпархії, адже об'єднав тих, хто щоденно несе своє пастирське служіння серед сотень тисяч українців, вимушених залишити Батьківщину внаслідок повномасштабної війни, розв'язаної Російською Федерацією проти України. У ці історичні часи Церква продовжує бути духовним домом, місцем молитви, підтримки, єдності та надії для українського народу далеко від рідної землі.

Собор розпочався спільною молитвою, після чого архієпископ Даниїл передав учасникам архіпастирське благословення та щирі вітання Митрополита Антонія, який молитовно підтримує духовенство та вірних Західноєвропейської Єпархії.

Відкриваючи засідання, владика Даниїл наголосив, що Господь особливим чином покликав українське духовенство звершувати служіння саме у цей драматичний період історії.

«Ми не планували тих обставин, які переживає сьогодні український народ. Ми не могли передбачити, що мільйони наших співвітчизників будуть змушені залишити свої домівки та шукати прихистку далеко від рідної землі. Але Господь привів саме нас туди, де сьогодні найбільше потрібна Його присутність. Для світу війна стала трагедією. Для Церкви вона стала також новим місійним полем. Разом із людьми до наших храмів прийшли їхній біль, сльози, страх і надія. І саме тому наше служіння повинно бути не лише літургійним, але й глибоко пастирським - сповненим любові, терпіння, співчуття та готовності бути поруч із людиною на її дорозі до Бога.»

«Ми представляємо не лише окремі парафії чи країни, у яких звершуємо своє служіння. Ми представляємо Українську Православну Церкву, Матір-Церкву - Вселенський Патріархат, і весь український народ, який сьогодні проходить через Голгофу війни. Саме тому кожен священнослужитель покликаний бути прикладом відповідальності, канонічної свідомості, відкритості до співпраці та братньої любові. Єдність завжди була і залишається найбільшою силою Церкви.»

Протягом двох днів роботи делегати Собору обговорили широке коло питань, що стосуються сучасного життя єпархії: подальший розвиток парафій, місіонерське служіння, катехизацію, духовний супровід українських родин, адміністративне зміцнення церковних структур, юридичне оформлення громад, діяльність церковних хорів, літургійне життя та розвиток деканатів.

Особливу увагу учасники приділили духовній опіці людей, які пережили травму війни, втрату близьких, вимушене переселення та складний процес інтеграції в нове суспільство. Учасники наголосили, що сучасний український священник покликаний бути не лише звершувачем Святих Таїнств, але й уважним співрозмовником, духовним батьком і носієм Божої надії.

Звертаючись до духовенства, архієпископ Даниїл закликав дивитися на розвиток єпархії стратегічно.

«Ми вже створили десятки громад. Ми вже маємо деканати. Ми вже бачимо, як тисячі українців знаходять у наших храмах духовний дім. Але історія Церкви ніколи не будувалася лише на збереженні досягнутого. Господь очікує від нас розвитку. Ми повинні мислити поколіннями. Не лише тим, що буде завтра, а тим, якою буде Українська Православна Церква через двадцять або п'ятдесят років. Ми будуємо не для себе. Ми будуємо для дітей і внуків тих людей, які сьогодні приходять до наших храмів.»

Владика наголосив, що сьогодні необхідно переходити від етапу становлення до етапу зрілого розвитку церковного життя.

«Наші парафії повинні бути більше, ніж місцем звершення богослужінь. Вони мають ставати духовними родинами. Тут люди повинні знаходити Христа, братерську любов, підтримку, освіту, відповідь на свої життєві питання і силу продовжувати свій шлях. Якщо після зустрічі з Церквою людина відчула, що Господь не залишив її саму серед випробувань, тоді наше служіння принесло свій плід.»

Однією з центральних тем Собору стала праця з молоддю.

Після тривалого обговорення було прийнято рішення, що у 2027 році Західноєвропейська Єпархія організує перший загальноєпархіальний православний молодіжний табір, який стане місцем духовного виховання, знайомства молодих українців між собою, формування православної ідентичності та зміцнення їхнього зв'язку з Церквою.

Архієпископ Даниїл підкреслив: «Молодь - це не лише майбутнє Церкви. Молодь - це її сьогодення. Якщо ми сьогодні не будемо вкладати свої сили у виховання дітей та молодих людей, завтра нам не буде кому передати той духовний скарб, який отримали від наших попередників. Молоді люди шукають правди, шукають любові, шукають Бога. Нашим завданням є допомогти їм знайти все це у Церкві Христовій. Саме тому молодіжні зустрічі, біблійні гуртки, паломництва, волонтерство, літні табори та духовні дискусії повинні стати невід'ємною частиною життя кожної парафії.»

Особливо цінною частиною програми Собору стала зустріч із проф. д-р. Ларисою Дідковською, ректором Українського Вільного Університету.

Пані професор поділилася зі священнослужителями сучасними підходами до психологічної підтримки людей, які пережили травми війни, вимушене переселення, втрату близьких та тривалий емоційний стрес. Особливу увагу було приділено співпраці між богослов'ям, душпастирством та психологією задля цілісного служіння людині.

Архієпископ Даниїл висловив щиру вдячність професору Дідковській за її багаторічне академічне служіння та вагомий внесок у духовно-психологічний супровід українців.

Владика особливо відзначив серію її нещодавніх відеороздумів, опублікованих на YouTube, які допомагають людям осмислювати власне життя, переживання та духовний шлях.

Звертаючись до духовенства, архієпископ зазначив: «Ми живемо у час, коли люди шукають відповіді не лише на зовнішні виклики, але й на внутрішні питання свого серця. Психологія допомагає зрозуміти людські переживання, однак справжнє пізнання особистості починається тоді, коли людина відкриває своє життя для Бога. Бо лише Господь знає глибину людського серця. Саме тому духовне самопізнання повинно завжди залишатися центром пастирського служіння. Людина знаходить себе лише тоді, коли знаходить Христа.»

На завершення зустрічі секретар Західноєвропейської Єпархії протоієрей Олександр Смоктунович від імені всіх учасників Собору вручив проф. д-р. Ларисі Дідковській букет квітів як знак глибокої вдячності за її змістовну лекцію, багаторічне служіння українській академічній спільноті та підтримку духовенства.

Кульмінацією Собору стала Архієрейська Божественна літургія, звершена у суботу, 11 липня, у день пам'яті святої рівноапостольної княгині Ольги.

Архієпископ Даниїл очолив богослужіння у співслужінні деканів, священнослужителів та духовенства Західноєвропейської Єпархії.

У своїй проповіді владика звернув увагу на особливий приклад святої княгині Ольги як жінки великої віри, мудрості та духовної мужності.

«Свята рівноапостольна княгиня Ольга показує нам, що Господь змінює історію тоді, коли знаходить людське серце, готове відповісти на Його поклик. Її найбільшою перемогою була не державна мудрість, а мужність прийняти Христа і дозволити Божій благодаті перемінити власне життя. Через навернення однієї людини Господь приготував навернення цілого народу. Так само і сьогодні від нашої особистої вірності Христові залежить майбутнє тих людей, яких Господь довірив нашій пастирській опіці.»

Архіпастир продовжив: «Свята Ольга навчає нас не боятися відповідальності. Справжній духовний провідник не шукає легких шляхів. Він залишається вірним Христові навіть тоді, коли навколо панують страх, війна, людська невпевненість чи випробування. Саме у такі моменти відкривається справжня сила віри. Наш народ сьогодні потребує священнослужителів, які власним життям свідчитимуть, що Господь ніколи не залишає тих, хто покладає на Нього свою надію.»

На завершення Собору архієпископ Даниїл подякував духовенству за жертовне служіння українському народові, наголосивши, що найбільшою силою Західноєвропейської Єпархії залишається братерська єдність, взаємна підтримка та спільне прагнення служити Христові.

«Найважливішим плодом нашого служіння будуть не статистичні показники чи кількість відкритих громад. Найбільшим плодом стане людина, яка через наше свідчення зустріла живого Христа. Якщо після нас люди більше любитимуть Бога, молитимуться щиріше, житимуть святіше і передадуть православну віру своїм дітям, тоді ми зможемо сказати, що Господь благословив наше служіння. Саме для цього існує Церква. Саме для цього Господь покликав кожного з нас.»

Завершилося молитовне зібрання братнім спілкуванням духовенства та делегатів Собору, які висловили вдячність Богові за дар єдності, можливість спільної молитви та нагоду разом визначити подальші напрямки розвитку Західноєвропейської Єпархії.

Учасники Собору залишали Мюнхен із глибоким переконанням, що Господь благословляє служіння Української Православної Церкви Діаспори серед українського народу, а єдність духовенства, жертовність мирян і непохитна віра в Христа залишаються найміцнішою основою для подальшого розвитку церковного життя в країнах Західної Європи.
