During a brief stop in Constantinople on his way to Düsseldorf, Germany, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel was received at the Patriarchal Offices by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, the spiritual leader of millions of Orthodox Christians around the world.

The fraternal meeting took place in an atmosphere of sincerity, mutual respect, and pastoral concern for the life of the Orthodox Church and the faithful entrusted to its care. During the conversation, Archbishop Daniel informed His All-Holiness about the spiritual life and ministries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America and Diaspora, highlighting the Church’s pastoral initiatives, humanitarian outreach, and its continued support for the people of Ukraine amid the ongoing devastation of war.

Particular attention during the meeting was given to the development of theological education within the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. Archbishop Daniel informed His All-Holiness about the upcoming celebration of the 50th anniversary of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary, the spiritual and academic center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and Diaspora, which for half a century has been forming new generations of clergy, theologians, and church leaders.

The Archbishop emphasized that the Seminary has played a vital role in preserving the Orthodox theological tradition, fostering academic scholarship, and preparing clergy for ministry not only in North America but also within the broader context of global Ukrainian Orthodoxy. He noted that the forthcoming jubilee will provide an opportunity not only to reflect with gratitude upon the history of the institution, but also to renew its academic and spiritual mission in the contemporary world - serving the Church through theological education, pastoral formation, and a living witness of the Orthodox faith.

Archbishop Daniel also reflected upon the vibrant spiritual life of Ukrainian Orthodox communities throughout the diaspora, emphasizing the steadfast faith, resilience, and sacrificial service of clergy and faithful who continue to bear witness to Christ while supporting those suffering in Ukraine.

During the meeting, Archbishop Daniel conveyed warm greetings on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, and personally greeted His All-Holiness on the occasion of his birthday.

In his words of greeting, Archbishop Daniel expressed deep gratitude for the Patriarch’s enduring spiritual leadership:

“Your All-Holiness, for countless faithful throughout the Orthodox world, you stand as a spiritual father, a courageous defender of truth, and a visionary shepherd who continually reminds the Church that the Gospel must be lived with both fidelity and compassion. Your steadfast support for the suffering people of Ukraine and for the dignity of the Orthodox Church has strengthened the hearts of millions. May the Lord grant you many blessed years, so that your voice of wisdom and peace may continue to guide the Church in these challenging times.”

As a sign of filial respect and gratitude, Archbishop Daniel presented His All-Holiness, on behalf of Metropolitan Antony and the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, with a special artistic gift. The gift was a work created by renowned Ukrainian artist Olena Kozak, part of her series of angelic figures. The particular piece depicts a warrior angel - a defender, symbolizing the protection of the innocent and the triumph of good over evil.

The image serves as a powerful spiritual symbol reflecting the struggle of the Ukrainian people, who even in the midst of war continue to defend their homeland, their freedom, and the dignity of human life. The angel stands as a sign of hope and prayer - a reminder that in every struggle between darkness and light, Christians are called to stand firmly on the side of truth, justice, and peace.

The meeting concluded with mutual assurances of prayer and a reaffirmation of the spiritual bond between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Reflecting upon the encounter as he departed the Patriarchal residence, Archbishop Daniel noted that such meetings are not merely formal events, but expressions of the deeper unity of the Church - a unity rooted in faith, shared suffering, and hope in Christ’s ultimate victory.

In these difficult times for Ukraine and the world, the Church continues to bear witness that the light of God’s truth will always overcome the darkness of injustice. Through prayer, compassion, and courageous faith, Orthodox Christians remain united in their calling to defend life, human dignity, and peace, trusting that the Lord - the King of Glory - guides His Church through every trial toward the triumph of righteousness and love.

Під час короткої зупинки в Константинополі на шляху до Дюссельдорфа (Німеччина) Його Високопреосвященство Архієпископ Даниїл був прийнятий у Патріарших канцеляріях Його Всесвятістю Вселенським Патріархом Варфоломієм І - духовним провідником мільйонів православних християн у всьому світі.

Братня зустріч відбулася в атмосфері щирості, взаємної поваги та пастирської турботи про життя Православної Церкви і вірних, довірених її духовному проводові. Під час розмови Архієпископ Даниїл поінформував Його Всесвятість про духовне життя та служіння Української Православної Церкви Сполучених Штатів Америкита Діаспори, зокрема відзначивши пастирські ініціативи, гуманітарні проєкти та постійну підтримку народу України в умовах руйнівної війни.

Особливу увагу під час зустрічі було приділено розвитку богословської освіти в Українській Православній Церкві США. Архієпископ Даниїл повідомив Його Всесвятість про підготовку до урочистого відзначення 50-річчя заснування Свято-Софійської Української Православної Богословської Семінарії - духовно-освітнього центру Української Православної Церкви США та Діаспори, який уже півстоліття формує нові покоління священнослужителів, богословів і церковних провідників. Архієпископ підкреслив, що семінарія відіграє важливу роль у збереженні православної богословської традиції, розвитку наукових досліджень та підготовці духовенства для служіння як у Північній Америці, так і в ширшому контексті світового українського православ’я.

Він зазначив, що майбутнє святкування ювілею стане нагодою не лише для вдячного осмислення історії семінарії, але й для академічного та духовного переосмислення її місії у сучасному світі - служити Церкві через богословську освіту, пастирську формацію та свідчення православної віри у глобальному суспільстві.

Архієпископ також поділився думками про живе духовне життя українських православних громад у діаспорі, підкресливши незламну віру, витривалість і жертовне служіння духовенства та мирян, які продовжують свідчити про Христа і підтримувати тих, хто страждає в Україні.

Під час зустрічі Архієпископ Даниїл передав щирі вітання від імені Його Високопреосвященства Митрополита Антонія, Предстоятеля Української Православної Церкви США, а також особисто привітав Його Всесвятість з нагоди дня народження.

У своєму привітанні Архієпископ Даниїл висловив глибоку вдячність за багаторічне духовне провідництво Вселенського Патріарха:

«Ваша Всесвятосте, для незліченних вірних у всьому православному світі Ви є духовним батьком, мужнім оборонцем правди та далекоглядним пастирем, який нагадує Церкві, що Євангеліє повинно жити у вірності та милосерді. Ваша незмінна підтримка стражденного народу України та гідності Православної Церкви укріплює серця мільйонів людей. Нехай Господь дарує Вам многії і благії літа, щоб Ваш голос мудрості та миру й надалі провадив Церкву в ці непрості часи».

Як знак пошани та вдячності, Архієпископ Даниїл від імені Митрополита Антонія і вірних Української Православної Церкви США підніс Його Всесвятості особливий мистецький дар. Ним стала робота робота відомої української мисткині Олени Козак, створена в рамках її серії ангельських образів. Представлена композиція зображає ангела-воїна - оборонця, який символізує захист невинних і перемогу добра над злом.

Цей образ є глибоким духовним символом боротьби українського народу, який, навіть у час війни, продовжує захищати свою землю, свободу та гідність людського життя. Ангел постає як знак надії та молитви - нагадування, що у кожній боротьбі між темрявою і світлом християнин покликаний стояти на стороні правди, справедливості та миру.

Зустріч завершилася взаємними запевненнями у молитві та підтвердженням духовної єдності між Вселенським Патріархатом і Українською Православною Церквою.

Покидаючи Патріаршу резиденцію, Архієпископ Даниїл зазначив, що подібні зустрічі є не лише офіційними подіями, але передусім свідченням глибшої єдності Церкви - єдності, укоріненої у вірі, спільному стражданні та надії на остаточну перемогу Христа.

У цей непростий час для України та всього світу Церква продовжує свідчити, що світло Божої правди завжди перемагає темряву несправедливості. Через молитву, милосердя та мужню віру православні християни залишаються єдиними у своєму покликанні захищати життя, людську гідність і мир, довіряючи, що Господь, Цар Слави, веде Свою Церкву через усі випробування до торжества правди і любові.
