With heavy hearts and in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection in Christ, the Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA announces the repose in the Lord of Mrs. Suzanne Marie Mathieu, a devoted and long-serving member of the Church’s Audit Commission.
For many years, Sue faithfully and humbly offered her spiritual gifts, time and expertise for the good of the Church and her people. With integrity, dedication and deep Christian conviction, she served the Audit Commission and the broader Church family, ensuring transparency and stewardship in the life of our God-protected Metropolia. Her quiet strength, professionalism, and kindness touched all who had the blessing of working alongside her. We will never forget Sue’s ability to tell a story – especially when it concerned occurrences in her own life experiences, which were numerous and amazing.
Her passing leaves a void in the life of our Church. Yet, we rejoice in the knowledge that Christ – the Resurrection and the Life – has received her soul into everlasting peace, awaiting His Triumphant return and Final Judgment. As the Holy Apostle Paul reminds us, “If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.” (Romans 14:8)
On behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, the Consistory, the members of the Audit Commission, the clergy and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, we extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Suzanne’s beloved daughter Kathleen, her immediate and extended family and friends – especially the parish family of St. Nicholas Parish in Charlottesville, VA, where she lived her Faith with deep devotion and love.
May Christ our True God grant comfort to all who mourn her passing and may her memory be eternal in God’s Heavenly Kingdom!

O God of spirits and of all flesh, Who has trampled down death, overthrown the devil and granted life to Your world: Grant rest, O Lord, to the soul of Your departed servant Suzanne, in a place of light, a place of refreshment, where there is no sickness, sighing and sorrow.
As You are a good God, Who loves mankind, pardon every sin committed by her in word, deed, or thought, for there is no one who lives and has not sinned – for You alone are without sin, O Lord and Your Righteousness is eternal, and Your Word is Truth.
For You are the Resurrection, the Life, and the Repose of Your newly presented servant Suzanne, O Christ our God, and to You do we give glory, together with Your Eternal Father and Your Most-Holy, Good, and Life-creating Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Give rest to her soul in peaceful repose, establish her among the righteous, and grant that her memory be eternal in Your Heavenly Kingdom.
Вічна Пам’ять! Eternal Memory!
