In a land torn by war - where the silence of abandoned villages is broken by the sound of shelling, and where fields of sunflowers stand alongside shattered homes - the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA continues to walk the path of Christ. It is a path marked by compassion, sacrifice, and love - a love that no war can extinguish.

At the very heart of this mission stands the Very Rev. Fr. Kostyantyn Kuznetsov, his devoted wife Natalia, and their son Dmytro. Together, they embody what it means to be the living Church - entering into the grief of displaced families, sitting beside the elderly who weep for homes they will never see again, and kneeling with children who cling tightly to toys given to them by strangers.

Their daily routine is not glamorous. It is long drives through dangerous roads, lifting heavy boxes, organizing supplies in cold basements. But in every package of food, in every bottle of medicine, in every hygiene kit, in every whispered prayer, there is the embrace of Christ.

“Being merciful to all those in need during war is our responsibility and opportunity to serve God and people,” Fr. Kostyantyn says. “The enemy can break buildings, but love and mercy cannot be destroyed - they remain in the hearts of those who believe in God’s power and human dignity.”

This mission is made possible only because of the faithful and friends of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, who give generously, sacrificially, and consistently. With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, funds are transferred every two-three weeks to Ukraine, ensuring that supplies are purchased quickly and delivered directly into the hands of those who need them most. Sometimes these are delivered personally by Fr. Kostyantyn and his family; sometimes they are sent via postal services or local volunteers.

Archbishop Daniel, reflecting on this mission, shared: “Every act of generosity becomes a miracle in someone’s life. A bag of flour becomes bread for a hungry family. A packet of medicine becomes relief for a sick child. A word of encouragement becomes light for someone living in darkness. This is what it means to be Christ’s hands in the world. This is what it means to love without condition.”

In Kharkiv, nearly every family is displaced, carrying with them only what they could hold as they fled. Natalia explains: “Only a displaced person truly understands the loss - the fear, the confusion, the streets of your childhood gone, the house of your parents in rubble. Even the graves of your loved ones are unreachable. All you have left are memories. Yet, even then, God gives us strength to keep moving forward.”

The tragedies are countless:

• a mother who left her kitchen table set for dinner as she ran with her children under shelling;
• a soldier whose body will never fully heal;
• a boy who will never again feel the embrace of his father.

But so too are the moments of grace:

• the child who laughs upon finding a candy in a relief parcel;
• the elderly woman who kisses a loaf of bread before making the sign of the cross;
• the soldier who calls from the front lines to say: “Your package arrived. I feel your prayers.”

“The Church is alive,” one volunteer said. “It is not walls and icons alone - it is life in action, love in motion. To be Orthodox is to extend your hand to someone in need at any moment. That is our faith. That is Christ among us.”

This humanitarian effort also partners with organizations like Revived Soldiers Ukraine, Kind Deeds, and the Protez Foundation, ensuring that wounded soldiers and children receive prosthetic limbs and medical care. The UOC of the USA supports orphanages and special education teachers, ensuring that children - those most vulnerable in war - have not only food and shelter, but the dignity of being cared for and loved.

With deep humility, the hierarchs of the Church express their gratitude to every donor, parish, and friend who has joined this sacred work.

“We thank God for choosing us to be an answer to someone’s prayer,” Archbishop Daniel affirmed. “And we thank you for your love, for your sacrifices, for your willingness to share in another’s suffering. Without you, this mission of mercy would not exist.”

The war is not over. The tears are not dried. The hunger is not yet satisfied. But the Church continues - because Christ calls us to serve until the very end.

У землі, розірваній війною, - де тиша покинутих сіл порушується вибухами, а поруч із зруйнованими будинками ще колишуться соняшникові поля, - Українська Православна Церква США продовжує йти шляхом Христовим. Це шлях, позначений співчуттям, жертовністю та любов’ю - любов’ю, яку жодна війна не може знищити.

У самому серці цієї місії стоїть митрофорний протоієрей Костянтин Кузнєцов, його віддана дружина Наталія та їхній син Дмитро. Разом вони втілюють живу Церкву - входячи в біль переселених родин, сидячи поруч зі старенькими, які плачуть за домами, що вони більше ніколи не побачать, і схиляючись над дітьми, які міцно обіймають іграшки, подаровані їм незнайомцями.

Їхнє щоденне служіння не є гучним. Це довгі поїздки небезпечними дорогами, носіння важких ящиків, організація допомоги у холодних підвалах. Але в кожному пакунку з їжею, у кожній пляшці ліків, у кожному наборі гігієни та в кожній короткій молитві є обійми Христа.

«Бути милосердними до всіх потребуючих під час війни - це наша відповідальність і наш шанс послужити Богу й людям», - каже о. Костянтин. - «Ворог може руйнувати будівлі, але любов і милосердя не можна знищити - вони залишаються в серцях тих, хто вірить у Божу силу та людську гідність».

Ця місія можлива лише завдяки вірним та друзям Української Православної Церкви США, які дають щедро, жертвенно та постійно. З благословення Високопреосвященнішого Митрополита Антонія кожні два-тритижні до України перераховуються кошти, щоб оперативно закуповувати необхідні продукти та доставляти їх безпосередньо у руки тих, хто найбільше цього потребує. Іноді їх доставляє особисто о. Костянтин із сім’єю; іноді - поштовими службами чи місцевими волонтерами.

Архієпископ Даниїл, роздумуючи над цим служінням, сказав: «Кожен акт щедрості стає дивом у чиємусь житті. Мішок борошна стає хлібом для голодної родини. Пакунок ліків стає полегшенням для хворої дитини. Слово підбадьорення стає світлом для людини, що живе в темряві. Саме так ми є руками Христа у світі. Саме так ми любимо безумовно».

У Харкові майже кожна сім’я є переселенцями, які взяли з собою лише те, що могли нести. Наталія пояснює: «Лише переселенець по-справжньому розуміє втрату - страх, розгубленість, вулиці дитинства, що зникли, батьківський дім, що став руїною. Навіть могили рідних недосяжні. У тебе залишаються лише спогади. І все ж навіть тоді Бог дає силу рухатися вперед».

Трагедій безліч:

• мати, яка залишила накритий стіл та втікала з дітьми під обстрілом;
• солдат, чиє тіло ніколи повністю не загоїться;
• хлопчик, який більше ніколи не обійме свого батька.

Але й благодаті не менше:

• дитина, яка сміється, знайшовши цукерку в пакунку допомоги;
• літня жінка, яка цілує хліб і хреститься;
• солдат, що дзвонить з передової: «Ваш пакунок прибув. Я відчуваю ваші молитви».

«Церква жива», - каже волонтер. «Вона - не лише стіни й ікони, вона - життя у дії, любов у русі. Бути православним означає простягнути руку будь-кому, хто в біді. Це і є наша віра. Це і є Христос посеред нас».

Гуманітарна діяльність УПЦ США також співпрацює з організаціями Revived Soldiers Ukraine, Kind Deeds, Protez Foundation, допомагаючи пораненим воїнам і дітям отримати протези та медичну допомогу. Церква підтримує сиротинці й спеціальних педагогів, щоб діти - найбільш вразливі жертви війни - мали не лише їжу й дах, а й гідність бути улюбленими та захищеними.

З глибокою смиренністю архієреї Церкви висловлюють вдячність кожному жертводавцю, парафії та другові, які долучилися до цього святого служіння.

«Ми дякуємо Богові за те, що Він обрав нас бути відповіддю на чиїсь молитви», - наголосив архієпископ Даниїл. - «І ми дякуємо вам за вашу любов, ваші жертви, вашу готовність розділити чужий біль. Без вас ця місія милосердя не існувала б».

Війна ще не завершилась. Сльози ще не висохли. Голод ще не вгамований. Але Церква триває у своєму служінні - бо Христос кличе нас служити аж до кінця.
