Last fall, in addition to the shoes and coats collected and shipped, one parish family donated 36 boxes of adult size diapers, which are in high demand for the older disabled children and are costly to purchase in Ukraine. In June, this family once again donated 55 containers of diapers initiating our church’s collection for the needs of the orphanages. In addition to the donation, this recently immigrated family from Ukraine hosted a parish charity dinner preparing and serving the meal, raising funds earmarked to our charitable outreach.
Recently during a visit to the Cleveland area, His Grace Bishop Daniel, the President of the Consistory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, joined Protodeacon Ihor Mahlay, director of the Consistory Office of Christian Charity to see the stored containers as they are repackaged for shipment at the parish School Building and then spent several hours with the benefactors expressing gratitude on behalf of the Church and the orphans in Ukraine. These generous faithful members are active parishioners of St. Vladimir’s and themselves are caring for a child that is disabled.
