Blessing of Monument and Cross at Archbishop Vsevolod’s Gravesite

A kind and generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous has sponsored the creation and setting of a beautiful monument and cross over the gravesite of His Eminence Archbishop Vsevolod who was ruling Hierarch of the Western Eparchy of our Holy Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA at the time of his death in December of 2007.  His Eminence Metropolitan Antony was joined on Saturday, 17 August, at St. Andrew Cemetery for the blessing of the beautiful monument and cross by local priests – V. Rev. Yurij Siwko, Pastor of St. Andrew Memorial Church, South Bound Brook; V. Rev. Volodymyr Muzychka, Pastor of St. Volodymyr Cathedral, New York City; V. Rev. Volodymyr Wronskyj, Pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Brooklyn, NY; Rev. Father Vasyl Pasakas, Pastor of Nativity of the Mother of God Parish, South Plainfield, NJ; Rev. Fr. Vasyl Dovhan of South Bound Brook; Rev. Fr. Vasyl Dmytryshyn of St. Sophia Seminary – all the students of St. Sophia Seminary, the Archbishop’s nephew Vice-Counsel at the Ukrainian Consulate in New York City, Konstyantyn Vorona and faithful from local parishes.

The monument is nearly eight feet in height and bears an inscription of a panahia with the Mother of God and the Christ Child commemoration the Archbishop’s love of a large collection of pectoral crosses and panahias.  On the ledger in front of the cross the important positions held in the life of our Church remind any visitor of his important role in our Church’s ministry.  Archbishop Vsevolod was consecrated as a bishop in September 1987.  He was the Titular Bishop of Skopelos, Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople from 1987-2007; Bishop and First Hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in America prior to that diocese’s merger with our Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the USA in 1996 after which he was elevated to Archbishop; Ruling Hierarch of the Western Eparchy of the UOC of USA from 1996-2007 and our Church’s representative to many ecumenical dialogues throughout his episcopal service.  May his soul rest in eternal happiness and his memory be eternal in God’s Heavenly Kingdom.  Vichna Yomu Pamyat – Memory Eternal!
