Your Eminence Metropolitan Joseph,

Your Grace Bishop Daniil,
Clergy and faithful of Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Diocese of the USA, Canada, and Australia

With profound grief we have learned about the repose in the Lord of His Holiness Patriarch Maxim who has carried out prayerful service as Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church for over forty years.
We would like to offer to you, to the Holy Synod and to all the Members of the Church our profound condolences, assuring you of our union in prayer with all who are mourning their Father and Pastor. In his long life at the service of the Gospel, the late Patriarch bore a witness of faith and spiritual fortitude also in particularly difficult moments, marked by various political and spiritual uncertainties of the last century.

We prayerfully ask the Lord to obtain that his example may be of comfort to the hearts of his faithful and to so many people of good will who, encouraged by his perseverance, strive to live the Christian faith to the full and to serve zealously the great cause of reconciliation and peace.

We honor his memory, as he faithfully served our Lord and His Holy Orthodox Church with unwavering commitment and Christ’s love in his heart.  We share with all the priests and faithful of the Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Diocese of the USA, Canada, Australia and throughout the world the feelings of regret and sorrow. On behalf of the priests and faithful of the Holy Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, please accept our sincere condolences. We pray our Risen Lord Jesus Christ to establish his soul where the righteous repose. We assure you of our prayers for the soul of His departed servant Patriarch Maxim.

May the sorrow at Patriarch Maxim's passing be transformed into sure hope in his "birth in Heaven", and may his memory continue to inspire vigorous spiritual growth in the people whom he served with dedication and generosity.

Вiчная пам'ять!      Memory Eternal!

With love in Christ,

+ Antony, Metropolitan
+Daniel, Bishop
