The Rudder or Pedalion
Holy Scripture is part of the written tradition of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. The second part is this Rudder with Canons of the Apostles, Seven Ecumenical Synods, Regional Synods, St. Basil the Great and many others. The Church cannot be without either the Holy Bible or the Rudder. The icon on this CD shows the rudder under the control of Jesus Christ, guiding the ship (Church) to His heavenly kingdom. This is that Rudder established by Christ's Apostles and servants by which the Church can stay on course and not be dashed to pieces on the rocks of unbelief, wrong belief, schism, heresy or secularism. It combats the gates of Hades which seeks to corrupt the divine truths of Orthodoxy. For this reason every Bishop has promised before God to uphold these canons as a inviolable treasure.
Many ills affect the Church in our days, such as disinterest and the rapid loss of members and their financial resources. We all need to regroup and become re-energized by preaching the Gospel, with both its promises and threats and returning to the sacred Canons. Ignorance of Scripture and the Canons is the main cause of all our troubles. If we take action, God will also act and shed His grace on both those who lead the way and who follow. The churches will again be filled, communities will prosper materially and spiritually. The Lord will send multitudes to the Church if we decide to work toward this objective, and those who do so will be called great in the Kingdom of heaven.
